Relaxation Massage
What is a relaxation massage?
A Relaxation Massage is a combination of massage strokes and techniques designed entirely to help you relax, physically and emotionally. While it can be used to help combat stress, it is also a great way to pamper yourself.
What does a relaxation Massage involve?
A Relaxation Massage is usually involves several soothing massage strokes blended into a flowing, calming massage ` session. A typical Relaxation Massage session takes about 75 minutes and begins with a brief intake talk. This gives me a chance to find out about any aches or pains, or medical conditions that may influence the way I conduct the massage. It also gives you a chance to communicate your own personal needs or preferences. The actual massaging usuallu lasts 50 to 60 minutes.
I then leave the room while you get yourself ready (usually undressing to your underwear but bra can be left on if that feels more comfortable) and lay face down on the table. When I return I begin by performing a few moves from Bowen Therapy on your back. This tends to increase the effectiveness of the relaxation massage. This is followed by massaging the back of you legs, followed by the big gluteal muscles (only if you are comfortable with this), the back and neck. You then roll over and have your feet, the front of your legs, stomach, chest area (excluding the breasts), shoulders, arms, and hands massaged. The session is finished with more neck work, as this is a common area of tension for most of us, the face and scalp. During the entire process, areas of your body not being massaged are covered with towels or a sheet to help keep you warm. After the massage, you are then left to lie on the table for a few minutes to enjoy the feeling of calm and relaxation that the session can bring. I then return and help get you up. You are left alone to get dressed. We finish with a short talk to make sure you are awake and ready to navigate in the real world again. It also gives you a change to give feedback which may alter how future massages are conducted.
A shorter session of 25 - 30 minutes (40 minutes including a short discussion before and after the treatment) involves massage to selected areas of your choice, usually in the following combinations:
Feet, back of the legs, back and neck, then roll over and finish with more neck work and the face.
Feet, front of legs, stomach, chest (excluding the breasts), shoulders, arms, neck and face.
What is relaxation massage good for?
Relaxation massage relieves muscle tension by increasing blood circulation, moving lymph fluid (the fluid that bathes your cells), and encouraging you to let go of long held tension. This leads to an increased feeling of wellbeing. But most of all, a relaxation massage is a way to pamper yourself or someone close to you.
A relaxation Massage is a great way to unwind before going on holidays. It helps you let go of tension from your work.
Things you should do to prepare yourself for getting a relaxation massage.
- Go to the toilet before your massage. It is easier to relax if you do not have the feeling you need to go to the toilet.
- Make sure you have plenty of time to get to the session on time. Rushing because you are late can quite stressful. It is best to be a few minutes early and wait quietly for your session to start. This way you get most out of the massage.
- Adjust your shedule so that you do not have to rush off into a stressful situation immediately after a Relaxation Massage. Take the peace and relaxation you found during the session with you when you leave.
- Avoid large meals and alcohol prior to a massage.
After the massage, it is best to walk around for a while. Make sure you are alert and fully awake before driving or riding your bike.
